My Greek Taverna, i have been here a couple of times now. And i was quite excited when they opened in the Foodcourt in Ayala. This is their second branch and their other location is in the Mango area. The problem with this place is, is that they are only open in the evening, they cater to all the partypeople near the nightclubs. And since i am really not a party person, i was never really able to go there. Until! The day that they came here.

And i have to tell you, i was pretty excited and at some points kind of disappointed. I would still recommend this place, the food is good, it's new, it's greek, i guess it is healthy, not entirely sure if the garlic sauce is. But overall, it's a pretty good place. If you are looking for a quick fix and you just need to quiet down the sounds in the belly department, i would recommend this place. It was just unfortunate on the day that i went, many of the items on the menu were not available. Always a bummer when you see that. And you can tell from the menu on the left that it is quite a bit.

Back in my country, The Netherlands, i have had my share of shawarma, kebabs and doner kebabs but they were all created in the Turkish traditional sense and sold in Turkish establishments, they were absolutely fantastic. It has been nine years now since i moved from my country to the Philippines. I do not regret it, but when i heard that this place has doner kebabs, it brought me back. You know how food can do that sometimes right? Are you thinking about a food deja vu now? That's what happened to me. Saturday evening, hanging out with the guys and getting a doner kebab from the local Turkish place. It's really great. So, naturally, i was jumping up and down with excitement, i needed to eat it.

And i have to tell you, it is not earth shattering but it is not bad either. It is a simple wrap that is filled with vegetables such as: cucumbers, lettuce and other fresh veggies. Then they put the meat on and you have a choice of chicken and pork, lamb or beef. And these have been slow cooked on the rotisserie. So the meat tastes really good and after that they drench it in the garlic sauce, i think it's a garlic aioli. Not entirely sure, but the greek like their olive oils, so it could very well be.

So, this was it. The Doner Kebab, gone in less than a minute. However, i did take the regular size. There is a bigger size which is slightly more expensive but then again, the cost also depends on which protein you take. The lamb is obviously the most expensive one, but it's juicy, it's tender and it's pretty well executed. However, the doner kebab isn't the only good thing they have, the gyros is pretty good as well, but when i was there, they ran out of french fries. I asked if i could replace it with salad and they told me that there was no lettuce. Then i asked if i could get a lower price on the gyros. Which makes sense right? But they said they couldn't do that. The french fries are good, the hummus is ok, it is a little too oily for my taste, the kapsalon is also pretty tasty and lastly, they also have budget meals. This comes with a regular kebab wrap, a salad and some fries, it's a pretty good value meal.

All in all, i would say that getting a meal from this place is a pretty good hunger quencher and it is a different flavor in your mouth compared to the other places in the foodcourt. If you are in the area and you want something different, go ahead and indulge, you will be satisified and you will walk away happy.

My Greek Taverna's location:

Price Range: ₱₱

Address: The Foodcourt at Ayala Center Cebu.

Location: Fourth floor, if you are taking the escalators, turn right at the Burger King and you will see the foodcourt, My Greek Taverna will be there. If you are coming from the elevators, turn left and follow the road until the end of the foodcourt.
